ClearSpan builds the first community sourced comparison tool for cloud services.
- Complex testing and comparison application for white hot tech industry
- Web application and multi-platform Linux CLI application
As with any new industry, buyers need a way to cut through the marketing jargon and get a hold of facts. With the launch of their cloud hosting service, The Planet decided that their service could benefit from detailed scrutiny and shine as a superior service.
This project consisted of two main components:
- A testing application that would produce accurate, consistent results across a wide varitety of Linux distributions and hardware configurations
- A web application that could collect, proccess and display the test results with filters and sorting abilities.
First, we created a web application that lets casual visitors view global server test results, sorting and filtering them by various provider, hardware and software specs. Users who want to test their own servers can run their own tests, publish them and comment on other tests.
Second, we developed a Linux application that tied two open source testing tools together in a compact, simple to use package and allowed users to run them with no knowledge of compiling or package management. We made the proccess so simple, even your mother could use it. The tool runs the tests, compiles the results and sends them back to the web application.
In the end, everyone involved were thrilled about the results. The website launched with its new owners, iNet Interactive, at HostingCon 2010 in our favorite part of the country, Austin, Texas.
